And as a result of that, I absolutely loathe when publishers release "free DLC" as a separate eShop download, especially when the content should have been integrated into a software update (and it almost always is, but necessitates the DLC to unlock the ability to utilise data that already exists in the software update, which never made any sense as the user isn't saving any data by choosing not to download the DLC). With DLC, once the eShop goes kaput, there will be no way of accessing that DLC if it isn't already installed on your console.
At least with software updates, you can wirelessly transfer data without an internet connection, so you can keep additional consoles with software updates on them as back-up well in to the future. : I'd be extremely p'ed off if they did that as it would necessitate a large download (something that would normally warrant a "Download Required" warning on the packaging of the game), and because the physical edition will be out of print by that time, there won't be any way of buying a reprinted cartridge with SMG2 already on it (as Nintendo usually includes the most up-to-date version of the game on the cartridge in reprints).Įven worse is if they make it free DLC, because then you won't be able to play the game offline on a secondary console (like a Switch Lite), and there won't be any way of backing up the game for prosperity either.
